Project Description

Facts about the destination

Gorongosa is located on the southern end of the Great Rift Valley, one of the world’s most dramatic geological features. The spectacular national park is situated in the heart of central Mozambique. This 4000 kilometre square foot park is one of the most bio diverse places on earth. It also is Africa’s greatest wildlife restoration story today.

The constant expansion and contraction of the flood plains, amidst a patchwork of savannah, woodlands and thickets creates a complex mosaic of small ecosystems. It supports a vast abundance and diversity of wildlife incomparable to anywhere else. With the park dividing itself into three main vegetation types, this rich biodiversity creates a complex yet thriving world where animals, plants and people are all able to interact in peace. Due to the varying terrains and complex ecosystems the Gorongosa National Park is home to some very rare and unique fauna and flora, some can only be found here.

When to visit

The best and only time to experience the thriving Gorongosa National Park is during the dry season, which runs from April to November. During the rainy season (December to March) the roads are closed due to flooding. Hence the park is inaccessible.
