Project Description

Set on a forestry commission outside the borders of the Hwange National Park, Ganda offers accommodation for the easy-going traveler. The lodge is only 4 kilometers inlands when travelling on the main road towards the National Parks entrance at Main Camp. It is accessible on a well graded road. Ganda is run by the Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe and their philosophy is to generate revenue for conservation programs in the country’s indigenous forest areas. This is done through recreational activities and photographic safaris.

The 8 spacious double story houses which accommodate 4 guests each immediately catch the visitor’s attention. Very generously built, the chalets have 2 beds on each story with en-suite bathroom, connected with a steep staircase. A great add-on is the cozy fireplace in each chalet for the cold Hwange Winters. Ceiling fans cool the hot air during the summer nights. Every chalet has a verandah and a balcony, overlooking the generous waterhole, the Ganda Pan, in front of the lodge. A very nice swimming pool invites the guests to cool down after the heat in the bush on game drives.

The lodge is connected to the main power supply. During dry season Ganda pumps water and the overspill searches its way all along the front of the lodge. With this permanent water source, it is very attractive for lots of animals who come for a drink. As Ganda has been built in the 90ies, the wildlife is used to humans which allows for fantastic close-up game viewing from the doorstep. Elephant, kudu, waterbuck, zebra and jackal are regular visitors and predators are also passing by.

With its location adjacent to the Hwange National Park, Ganda is a great base for the ongoing excursions into the Park. Game drives with the professional guides are available and game walks can be arranged. Visits to a local village are a great way to interact with the local Hwange Community.
